PRO-AMERICANS SPEND $150K ON CLOTHES

Joe and Jill the PlumberBARACK THE BARGAIN HUNTER: Conservative blog TownHall.com investigated those fancy Obamas to see how much they spent on clothes. Barack & Michelle’s nomination night outfits cost under $3,000, or about 2% of Sarah Palin’s RNC shopping spree — and that includes a custom-made suit for Hopey. The Obamas also apparently bought their clothes with their own money, like Americans who support capitalism. [Town Hall]

  1. It’s socialist to pay for your own clothes.

  2. NotUrEvryDayWEzl says at 10:20 pm, October 22nd, 2008

Is making your own clothes capitalist or socialist? I forget. Hand-me-downs can go fuck the Berlin Wall though.

I love Michelle Obama’s style…but she needs to watch it with the flair.
I detect a slight flair addiction.

Ladies Hope Journal is in the tank.

Supporting local designers is not the American way. Now shopping at Saks represents the average Joe.

Ken, I’m surprised you haven’t figured this out yet. Giving giant quantities of money to big, elite businesses = Capitalism = good Republican practice.

Giving money you have earned yourself to hard working small businesses = Communism = standard Democratic practice.

The difference between Capitalism and Communism is the amount of money you have. Why do you think Commies use things like “rubles” and “euros” instead of good ol’ American dollars?

  7. Lionel Hutz Esq. says at 10:24 pm, October 22nd, 2008

In fairness to Palin, Guiliani buys all of his dresses at Saks.

Undeterredbyreality: Freudian slip there, it’s Ladies Home Journal, not Hope Journal. So… stop obsessing about Barack Obama.

  11. But if you add up how much that black guy spent on his fancy education vs. what Hockey Mom spent on her education you can see who the real out of touch elitist really is.

  12. WhatTheHeck says at 10:49 pm, October 22nd, 2008

When Walnutz says Obama is inexperienced, he’s so damn right. Obama has no clue how to milk the system to get those extra perks.
Lesson One: Never use your own money.
Lesson Two: Never let big Government force you to pay taxes.
Lesson Three: Never spend just chump change. Go Large.

These, my friends, are the lessons learnt from 5 1/2 years of going without.

  13. Johnny Zhivago says at 10:52 pm, October 22nd, 2008

Crab1: Exactly… I like Palin’s home spun values and the fact that she’s encouraged her children to drop out of school (great role model for Americans concerned about keeping college expenses to a minimum), to join the Army and get pregnant at an early age. In fact, if she would convince her pregnant girls to join the army, I’d be over the moon with her.

I think they missed the Che Guevara t-shirt Obama always wears underneath his dress shirt that he bought at the local Socialist Bookstore for $15

  23. A $1,500 custom-tailored suit really isn’t that bad. I don’t make much more than the average American, but even I’ve got one “good suit”. And Barack made his money from being an author, not RNC handouts. He’s earned several nice suits. His money, he can spend it however he wants.

Honestly, this is why McCain’s $500 Ferragamo shoes never really became a big deal either (though his wife’s outfit at the RNC was a bit much at $300k). Who cares if the McCains want to spend their own money on nice stuff?

With Palin, it’s not the size of the bill, eye-popping as it may be; it’s the ethics of the thing.

why is the ladies home journal obsessed with obama’s gas pump?

  25. You think she _really_ spent that money on clothes? WAKE UP SHEEPLE! Jeff Larson took her to have her bunghole bleached. Apparently the end of her pipeline wasn’t as Really American as the rest of her.

I also have to jump on the Michelle-Obama-as-fashion-plate bandwagon. This just shows, once again, that you can give someone all the money in the world, but, if they’ve got cheap taste, they’re just gonna look cheap (Paris Hilton, Sarah Palin). On the other hand, you can drop people with impeccable taste in a fucking Talbot’s and they’ll come out looking awesome (Tim Gunn, Michelle and Hopey).

BTW I thought only white people shopped at the Gap? Besides me, of course. Those jeans don’t allow for any ass whatsoever.

  42. The cover of the Ladies Home Journal?!? The populism. It threatens to consume me.

BobLoblawLawBlog: exactly. No matter what you drape on Palin, it is not going to give her grace, class, and real self-confidence born of knowing oneself and lack of ego versus running other people down and bragging about yourself.
