Someone asked John McCain at a deal today whether or not Barack Obama was calling Sarah Palin a pig last week when he was not doing that. McCain responded “no,” and added — as he did on The View last week — that Obama “chooses his words very carefully” and shouldn’t have said that. We half-agree with Walnuts here! It probably was a deliberate word choice in order to bait McCain into responding like a nutcase, which he frequently does due to his old age. So I posed a question on that mudflats site that had posted all of those pics of the hugest demonstration Alaska had ever seen. “Would Alaska go for Obama out of spite?” The reply I got is interesting;
My husband & I were talking about this last night, and I had a conversation w/my aunt about it as well. We are all in Alaska right now, though my husband is leaving for Canada on Friday he will vote early or absentee.
Anyway, I said to them wouldn’t it be great if Alaska went Democrat! I read somewhere that the Valley (Wasilla) was shaped by the oil boom, people from the South moving up for the oil jobs about 30+ years ago. It is definately a losing battle trying to change minds out there. However, Anchorage is definately a more liberal city, as is Juneau, and add to the Juneau mix the fact that Palin has pissed off so many there and there could be a Democratic outcome for that city. Anchorage, well, I just don’t know, but I’m doing my part! Heading farther north, Fairbanks might be a Palin city, since there is a huge military base there. However, take heart from the fact that the other day I was at a postcard party in Anchorage and sat near a military wife who was a very eloquent speaker on behalf of Obama. If other wives & husbands are tired of sending their spouses away to be killed or going away to be killed themselves, then maybe there is hope. Between Wasilla and Fairbanks there are several small towns, and they are probably 50-50 in terms of neo-cons & environmentally aware (which would mean NO McSame). Like I told my aunt last night: this, just as all previous elections, is an election where every single vote counts! We can do this in Alaska, but we must get energized! That being the case, I am going to head out with my toddler and use my walking list to try to win some Obama votes!
I forgot to mention that Palin has totally pissed off the Alaska Native contingent, and if they can get their groups rallied around the Obama cause that would be a lot of votes for Obama!!!!!!
