Pays to be uppity I guess.
Hilarious. Palin energizes the base. The Democratic base. That’s not sexist; that’s sex-ay!
that makes me want to rob a bank for hopey. maybe bush will give me another stimulus check so I can buy a new preznit.
Eat that Paultards!
Well, glad to see that the Repubs giving up policy issues so that they could tear into Barry all night worked for ‘em.
More racist speeches! One each night, keep it coming repubs!
It wouldn’t surprise me to see $20 after McCain’s abortion of a speech tonight. My question: how are they going to get a green screen large enough to cover the empty back wall of the arena tonight?
Sweeeeet. I hope you never lose your divisive touch, Ice Governess of the Great White North.
Her speech should be posted on the Obama website. Just put a ‘donate’ button right under it.
[re=84589]Cogito Ergo Bibo[/re]: So, lemme get this straight: McCain makes a decision that can only play as hypocrisy to pick a VP that is riddled with scandal and pretty much plays only to the Repub base, and she ends up helping the Democrats get off their asses and help the campaign? This is my favorite campaign decision EVER. Sex-ay, indeed.
[re=84591]Gopherit v2.0[/re]: Fuck ya!
That is all.
Obama should run scrolling text ad across the bottom of the screen during McCain’s speech: To donate to Sen Obama’s campaign, please visit barackobama.com”
I wish I had money to give to Obama, but I guess I’ll just have to give him my time instead. I’m volunteering every weekend I can spare between now and November, and encourage everyone to do the same:
http://action.barackobama.com/page/s/volunteer/
[re=84601]obfuscator[/re]:
I’m predicting that if the McCain/Palin team loses the election, she won’t be reelected as governor.
My last comment was pretty high road, except for the obligatory “fuck.”
Now can I unleash my true self?
Sarah Cunt Palin is a typical cunty Republican cunt, no less of a supercunt than that nutcunt Ann Coulter. By contrast, Hillary is a plain old cunt, and what a refreshing difference that is.
Now I’m REALLY walkin’ on sunshine. And don’t it feel GOOD!
Thank you, I’ll go back in the cupboard again.
Yeah, her speech last night was finally what it took to get me to donate.
I mean, do the Republicans even realize that at a time of recession and malaise, they’ve basically chosen to run as cartoon villains? People are far less likely to fall for culture wars bullshit when the pocketbook is their most pressing concern. The next time that culture war stuff matters will be in the middle of our next boom.
Maybe McCain/Palin is the ticket of change after all.
…I honestly wonder how many of them were embarrassed Alaskans?!
[re=84632]jagorev[/re]: Agreed! I’ve noticed this many times. When there’s nothing profoundly wrong from the public’s POV all these sideshow issues come to the fore, especially since we’re cursed with this 24/7 news cycle.
the money stuff is good.
but a new cbs poll has obama and mccain tied now, down from an eight-point lead for obama. that’s all, like… fuck.
[re=84623]Strappo[/re]: cuntboard, stupid.
Gallup has Hopey with 7 point lead today.
Buck up!
[re=84655]Valerie[/re]: but when was the poll? I’m'a be pissed if this palin bullshit somehow resonates with people.
[re=84655]Valerie[/re]: Well you know, Walnuts is experiencing the RNC’s “post convention bounce” into utter fucking failure.
130,000 donors? So what? Why the VPILF can bring at least 4,000-9,000 snowbillyz donatards and they have oil AND meth money to ‘invest’
Gallup Daily Tracking…poll taken today. Headline of story “No dent in Obama lead so far”
http://www.gallup.com/poll/election2008.aspx
This morning I both gave and then volunteered several weekends to go to PA for the campaign.
[re=84650]apocalypsethen[/re]: Don’t pay too much attention to one poll. It’s a good data point for McCain, but comes in the middle of an expected VP/Convention bounce (which usually fades after a while, and it has to be put in context with all the other state and national polling.
If http://www.fivethirtyeight.com is not already on your daily reading list, add it.
If I could send Obama a bag of money marked “Wimmins mayk bad leeders”, I totally would right now. But alas, I don’t have any money. It’s the thought that counts, though, yes?
[re=84621]Terry[/re]: She wasn’t going to be re-elected gov anyway. Troopergate already had her on the path to impeachment.
[re=84623]Strappo[/re]: How dare you accuse Ann Coulter of having a cunt.
[re=84648]Strappo[/re]: Yeah, there are serious elections, and not so serious elections. 2000 was an unserious election because it happened at the peak of the stock market bubble, and so we were all complacent enough to think that it didn’t really matter whether Bore or Gush won.
The last time we had an election with a similar set of economic challenges was 1992, when a young, hopey orator took on a (popular!) incumbent, war-winning Republican administration, and just look how that turned out.
[re=84667]Valerie[/re]: Gallup is a tool.
[re=84670]jagorev[/re]: Oh, that’s good stuff, thanks.
[re=84675]jagorev[/re]: B. Clinton barely won, not even getting a majority of the electorate (43%).
[re=84651]Sean O[/re]: I was thinking of that! But it seemed, I don’t know, a little tasteless.
[re=84670]jagorev[/re]: oh, I’m totally up on fivethirtyeight’s jock. and ultimately, I still think the vp choice won’t make a positive difference… because it never does.
it’s just that at a gut level, it pisses me off that anyone would be inspired by or drawn to last night’s bullshittery.
[re=84674]Vanity Smurf[/re]: You mean she has a … ?!
Shows what all those steroids really can do to a man.
[re=84690]apocalypsethen[/re]: This is America, for Chrissakes. Fact: We are now dumber than every country except Paraguay.
I’d been looking for this shiznit all day. Yes They Can (i haven’t donated…yet).
[re=84670]jagorev[/re]: Don’t pay any attention to ANY polls, you mean. See, what’s the worst that could happen here? So, Mc Cranky gets elected, so what? We still have our friends and family. We are still better looking than the pastry dough in double knit that I see on the tube cheering for that “really great speach” last night. We’ve got access to Boodles, we are good enough looking to keep right on (as I have said before) getting laid like a teenage Alaskan hockey dude, and if Mc Cranky tips over while in office? Well, weed is practically legal up there in Alaska, maybe our new Presibitch will hook us up down here in the lower 48…49…whatever. The point is, cheer up! The next president is going to inherit a big steaming pile of an economy, a world that can not stand us, and massive disatisfaction in the country he governs. If ever there was an election to lose, this is it baby!
[re=84655]Valerie[/re]: the gallup was pre-imPalin.
If you buy anything in the Obama Store it counts as a donation. Go get yourself a snappy new t-shirt. Or a pack of Barry balloons for your Election Night party. Or a Hopey mug for a frosty mug of Senator beer.
[re=84675]jagorev[/re]: Well, the second one turned out pretty well except for the cocksucking thing that was another all-American sideshow. “That’s entertaaaainment.”
[re=84697]magic titty[/re]: Nope. It was today. At least I’m ALMOST sure…
http://www.gallup.com/home.aspx
[re=84693]Strappo[/re]: I’ve spent a fair amount of time in paraguay and… and… you’re right.
/the snark will return after these very important messages
I just duked Obama 50 bucks. On top of that, I’m going to blog about this fucked up embarrassment we call American politics on my very non-political, aquarium hobbyist fish blog. Snark is good, snark is great, snark is snark. But this is our fucking country too. Jesus christi on a toboggan, we gotta do our part… and I know I’m not the only wonk blog commentator with at least a 4-page rank on their action. HINT: you’re rove. rove it up, tailor your attack to your audience, say what you gotta say to get your man in.
/end
Screw this. I duked ron paul .25 in non-paper, GOLD-standard currency and all I got was a cafepress t-shirt. Well, paul was a loser and never had a chance… you do the math.
[re=84701]apocalypsethen[/re]: Wow, you have? Well, we have our work cut out for us. I’m guessin’ 10 more years of teaching creationism and putting Faith before reason, that tool of the Evil One, will finish the job nicely. Then the Chinese will come and herd us all into reservations.
[re=84617]jagorev[/re]: I’ll put a couple of dollars in for you! No problem.
[re=84650]apocalypsethen[/re]: Meh, it looks like it’s an outlier. Just use fivethirtyeight.com for all your polling needs.
[re=84700]shortsshortsshorts[/re]: Here’s what it says on the poll for the record:
Gallup Daily: No Dent in Obama Lead So Far
September 4, 2008
Barack Obama continues to hold a significant lead over John McCain, 49% to 42%, in the latest Gallup Poll Daily tracking results, which reflect the impact of the initial events of the Republican convention through early Wednesday, but not Sarah Palin’s highly-anticipated speech Wednesday evening.
[re=84726]NoWireHangers[/re]: Well shit. That sucks. I thought Barry was thoroughly pwning.
Also I find the donation drive kind of amazing since Obiden’s been doing the respectful thing and not actively campaigning/responding during the RNC/Gustav. Their website barely acknowledges the convention at all. And yet, people are stepping up to the plate. This really is a campaign driven by the people, isn’t it. *snarkless tear*
Gee, $8 million … and they haven’t even let Biden loose yet. If he can come up with another one of those noun/verb-level snarks, I’m emptying out my bank account.
I’m not sure how many people self-identify as community organizers, but I know they’re pissed, and they know how to organize communities.
I hope we hear more comments from Georgia Republican Congressman Lynn Westmoreland calling Obama “uppity.” That would send donations into the stratosphere. I’m talking elist Republican trust fund money.
[re=84617]jagorev[/re]:
Done and done. True, I live in the People’s Republic of Massachusetts, and I’ll probably end up with that most thankless of tasks — phonebanking, ugh — but I’ve checked off the appropriate boxes, including housing one of those uppity organizers in our place. That is, if they don’t turn our house into a crack den with their gin and juice first.
And yeah, it was the “uppity” thing that did it for me. Jesus fucking Christ, these people.
I want BLOOD.
I just want to say that Sarah Palin a terrible mother. Her 17 year old daughter is pregnant because her mom is so driven by pride and celebrity that she can’t even take responsibility for her own children. Now she’s marrying some deadbeat with tattoos. Her life is ruined because of her parents.
That’s my story and I’m sticking with it.
[re=84747]jjgittes[/re]: You could go canvassing in New Hampshire maybe? Be careful, though, everyone in New Hampshire is an armed drunkard.
[re=84711]Itsjustme[/re]: Thanks. Much appreciated!
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!
That is all.
[re=84754]Outstando[/re]: Uhhh…her 17 year old daughter is pregnant because of wingnut anti-sex education and “pro-life” rhetoric. I feel bad for that girl, really. Talk about the sins of the parents…
[re=84802]WonksRunAmuck[/re]: I’m pretty sure wingnut anti-sex education and “pro-life” rhetoric does not, as yet, have a penis.
And to think, when I woke up on Friday – on my birthday – my first reaction to Palin’s pick was a series of expletives and then going right back to sleep. But in between then and yesterday, which was my husband’s birthday, has been nothing but chocolately fabulous yummy political goodness. Christmas morning and Disneyland and a week of happy hours all rolled into one. Thanks, John McCain, and Happy Birthday to YOU, too!
This is great news and I think the idea of running the speech with a “Donate Now” button is a great idea. Or, just have Tina Fey read it in a monotone with no cheering, no nothing so that you can really hear what’s being said. Hopey needs to be careful, though, as does Biden. They need to tread very lightly around this woman and chase after McCain. I still think Hopey needs to jump during the debate and force McCain to break down. Maybe say, “was that Charlie?” The whole McCain/Bush thing makes the best argument.
As for the next administration inheriting a steaming pie of poo so who cares, that’s a standard Daily Kos refrain. Go vote, go work, go give money. This election is a chance to open up the windows and clear out the Bush/Cheney hate. Now. Now. Now.
[re=84747]jjgittes[/re]: I want to see blood as well – the only thing that calms me down is the beautiful thought of this being reenacted in November, with Obama as Plainview and Walnuts-Palin as Eli:

[re=84650]apocalypsethen[/re]: OK I have had it with this freaking obsession with polls! Please for your own sanity stop looking at them and analyzing them and allowing them to mess with your mind like so many statistical prozacs sprinkled randomly in your water supply (oh shit and I write for a living, can’t you tell by that sparking simile???) Seriously, polls are evil, peddled to us by the corporate infotainment cloud factory that is our modern media miasma as a cheap, sensational and utterly valueless substitute for actual critical thought. I mean we in bass-ackwards 19th century Amerika land of the ignorant and clueless don’t even elect a prez by direct vote for fuck’s sake so why do we buy into the shit that national polls (especially the pernicious and deadly daily tracking polls–AAAARRRGGH!!!) have any meaning whatsoever? For the love of vishnu why don’t we ever pay attention to important things like will our actual votes on actual election day actually be counted instead of acting like a basketful of brain-damaged puppies who can’t help chasing retardedly after the shiny balls of strychnine strewn across the floor by a bunch of sadistic pollster pricks??? (Oh shit what do you think, should I lay off the caffeine for tonight?)

There are some things I can’t do, and knocking on doors in NH is one of them. First of all, I’m a relatively recent emigre from CA. I don’t have the Pepperidge Farm accent down yet, although I’m working on a passable Bahstahn.
Second, even though parts of NH are bedroom communities for Boston and VT, that’s not Russian roulette I can believe in.
