Wow, Bush thinks that Russia may be looking for regime change in Georgia? Wonder where they could have gotten THAT idea.

Mr. Bush, in Beijing for the Olympics, strongly criticized the Russian attacks, and urged an immediate cease-fire. In an interview on NBC on Monday morning, he said he had been “very firm” with both Russia’s prime minister, Vladimir V. Putin, and its president, Dmitri Medvedev, arguing that if they insisted on war, they should at least move the fighting from South Ossetia to another place that he could pronunciate.
Putin and Medvedev thought about it, and said, “OK, W, we’ll move the fighting to GORI.”
George still has a chance to start World War III before he leaves office. He’s not the American Caesar, he’s the American Nero. He should take up fiddling.

You would think that someone would have noticed that the Russian response to difficulties with former satrapies to the south has always been the same–blow them up with as much conventional firepower as can be deployed. Afghanistan in 1980…Chechnya 1991…Georgia itself in 1924…nah, it will be different this time, Putin is at the Olympics so he won’t hear about it.
