You know what was “great” about the wingnuts freaking out about the Dunkin’ Donuts ad freakout? Dunkin’ Donuts is actually a product these people use, daily, by eating bags of donuts. And then they start calling the AM talk radio shows, and next thing you know the angry white appliance repairman is wondering if he should really be eating at Dunkin’ Donuts five times a day … so maybe he takes his business to the local donut shop run by the nice Palestinian family. Much more common is the wingnut pretend-boycott of something they wouldn’t ever use, even if they knew about it. Such is the fury over HBO’s little-watched yet much-discussed Recount, a movie about the horrible 2000 election and Florida debacle.
So there was this movie, Recount, about the Florida recount. Apparently it didn’t do so well, as far as audience. But it was Memorial Day, and HBO things run about a hundred times anyway, so who cares. Elitist reviewers liked it — they like that Kevin Spacey! — and elitist public-radio listeners who read the film critics in the newspapers were probably happy, the end. Right?
Hell no! The wingnuts are PISSED. Look at ‘em go nuts about something they’ll never ever see:

- I so proud I cancel my HBO account last month…it had been a long time coming. I only hung on to see “The Wire”…now to much filler, pussies(Betty Maher) and political BS. It’s a $180 extra in my pocket each year now.
- If we did not have these left wing weenies I guess we would just have to cling to our guns our God and hate people that are not like use.

I had cable installed and subscribed to the premium movie package so I could cancel HBO.
“Betty Maher”? Look, if you’re going to try to show your contempt for someone by turning their name into a girl’s name, at least use the right girl’s name. I think “Wilhelmina Maher” has a nice ring to it. Or “Billie”, if you’re sassy.
I enjoy that Malkin is not only an unemployed hobo (FOX do not like you anymore?), but an ailing elitist. The proletariat folk will crush her. “the sun doesn’t set when you close your eyes” is a wonderful thing, because if you shut your eyes for the entire sunset, THE FUCKING SUN WILL SET. And I will throw my props to the folks who think that HUGE allegorical statements can categorize their bitter asses into useful.

I moved to TN just before Seattle got their first KK(K) (yes, the delicious dounut factory is just a front for the Ku Klux Klan) and I began to crave Dunkin’s delicious glazed cake donuts. I knew Recount was going to be bad when the opening shot was of an old woman–her star of David necklace prominently displayed–frowning confusedly over the ballot box. It was saved by Laura “Pink Sugar” Dern’s Kitty Harris impression (camp gold!) and some herb for the last half.
The moral of Recount was that in the cheaters game of elections, you must win by 3% or more, because the courts are all partisan, and currently the Republicans own the Supreme one.
I liked the part where Ben Franklin showed up to lead the Bush team. Oh wait, that was John Adams, part 126.
