UH OH — PEGGY NOONAN IS MAKING SENSE: Yes, she does scream in Latin at some point, but otherwise this week's Peggy's World is probably the best column on Hillary's Last Stand. Scary times, scary times .... [Wall Street Journal]

  • There's something about this in the Book of Revelations.

  • Yes, Peggy, the Dems are in total disarray trying to figure out what on earth they are going to do with all this peace and proseperity the party of George W. Bush is going to hand them. Thank you for that observation.

  • She actually makes a lot of sense here. Strange days indeed.

  • Re@Gopherit: Yeah, Revelation 13:1: And I saw a beast rising out of the sea, with ten horns and seven heads, and upon each horn a crown, and upon each head a blasphemous name...

  • Dianne Feinstein needs to kick Hils in the seat of her pantsuit, for the good of their party. And someone needs to duct-tape Stephanie Tubbs-Jones mouth SHUT.

  • Up is down. If someone had told me that in 2008, a large number of Demrats would agree with the vast RW conspriacy and shit on the Clintons, the Dems would vote for a very smart man who happens to be black as their nominee, the RW conspiracy would like Hils and the Peg Nooner would make sense then I would have told them the odds of that happening would be the same as if Britney Spears married a loser, got real fat real fast, went insane and shaved her head.

  • Do you think that last Tuesday's results will force Hillary to give Barry the vice presidential position?

I am hoping not. I want her to give it to Steny Hoeyer....that is my dream ticket!

  • @baxterthepug: Thanks for the screaming misogyny first thing in the morning. Are you planning to top it off by assaulting a woman on your way home from work tonight? Certainly seems that way you pig.

  • I don't want to live in a world where I agree with Peggy Noonan and wish Bill Clinton would just go away.

  • @The Rev. Yevot: "and its three balls swaying in the winds..."

  • And Noonan's using plain English terms like "vulgar" and "cold" to describe HRC's language which cuts right to the point.

See, this is the lesson: It's totally alright for analysts and columnists/bloggers to use divisive and polarizing language. That's their job and what they're paid for. When you're a candidate, you can't use such language. It's in your best interests not to separate and alienate, even if you're trying in your damndest to win - yes, even at any cost.

With all of Hillary's self-touted "experience" and "political wisdom", she should have been the first to know this. By her going this route she has exposed to what depths she feels is appropriate for strategy. She says with one breath that she will work for the Party and then with the next she talks against the Party interests. She says that she's not race-baiting but then will instantly say she's being attacked for being a woman and then wave the gender card all around (knowing full well is Obama even tried to use race as a defense for his unbalanced media treatment she would pounce on that).

So, in terms of how one is to act under pressure, especially in the most pressure-filled office in the Free World, who would you pick?

  • @TEAM HEIDI: Oh, you're one to talk, with your ageist Depends comment over in the McCain's mom thread.

  • @TEAM HEIDI: With all due respect, Clinton/Hoyer would be the worst ticket in the history of the world, and that includes the future.

  • @Doglessliberal: And lo, I saw the Beast give up one of its balls to the child--and the child then had two balls of its own. And it was good.

  • @TEAM HEIDI: Screaming misogyny? How is this misogyny? Someone does need to kick Hillary in the ass and make her face reality. Gender has nothing to do with it (except that Hillary makes it about race and gender while saying she is not). And Hillary doesn't need to worry about her VP pick, unless you don't believe in math either, like Hillary and Huckabee. Obama needs to be thinking about his pick, and it ain't going to be her.

  • @The Rev. Yevot: Amen, brother!

  • Who is this Pro-Obama person making sense and what did she do with Peggy? Will someone please get to the bottom of this? The only reason I read her stuff before was how ridiculous it is, and now she's saying Hillary is RUINING things and Barry is the Islamic-Messiah and blah blah sense. Jeebus.

  • @Dave J.: Is it possible to agree with Bill and disagree with Hillz? I'd like to think so ,but don't tell her that. She's only just started letting him back in the house again.

  • @Doglessliberal: Screaming Misogyny? Aren't they the house band at the Republican National Convention?

  • @Doglessliberal: Baxterpug is just angry cause she isn't getting any at home and never has.

Maybe if she wore a bag over her head at the happy hour at her local TGIF tonight she might have some better luck.

Is that misogynistic enough for you?

  • @TEAM HEIDI: I totally agree with your point of view about Peggy Noonan.

  • Ah, Noonan's just rehashing the lame old talking points that the right's been saying for the last few months -- and they're still crap.
The fact is, this race is probably good for the Democrats. Voters at the ass-end of the nominating process usually feel like their voices are never heard, but this year they are.
And it's tearing the party apart? Right -- remember all those Republicans who swore they'd vote for someone else if McCrone got the nomination? Rush, Coulter, Sean Assity -- well guess who they're solidly behind now. The Democrats aren't going to be any different when someone is officially the nominee.
Remember the Golden Rule of Right-Wing Commentary: If it's uttered by Noonan, Novak, Krauthammer or Kristol, it's wrong. Period.
And viva nominatum?! The only white smoke I see, Peggy, is coming out of your ass.

  • @TEAM HEIDI: That's just GRRRREAT!!!

    Why aren't you banned......again......yet?

  • @shortsshortsshorts: 60 minutes has a segment on Sunday night featuring that guy who runs the Indonesian national airlines who told reporters that Barry Soetoro...oops! I mean Barry Hussein....went to muslim prayer with him as a schoolboy and recited his prayers just beautifully.

I bet Barry recites those same muslim prayers while the rest of us our saying the pledge of allegiance. I can read lips and I saw him do it!!!

  • @TEAM HEIDI: 1975 called, it wants it's feminist rhetoric back.

  • @shortsshortsshorts: oh PLEASE! don't try playing nice with me.

after sending me like 301 private emails I know your game inside and out my creepy, spindly, balding evil korean friend. you are just trying to get in my pants. why don't you give it up?

  • @The Real JR: Too bad the campaign strategy of "motivate your base and to hell with the rest of them" has been the plan for as long as it has.

  • @Gopherit: Yes, they are on a double bill with the Deep Closets.

  • @TEAM HEIDI: What do you have against the Koreans?

  • @TEAM HEIDI: nah, you can do better. Throw in some gratuitious rape and she-asked for-it comments.

  • Not only she makes sense, there is another WSJ article that says it better than any liberal would: [online.wsj.com]

I never thought I would agree with these guys. Never. A great thing about awful people: they help us all to see how we can sometimes agree with most fellow humans, because most are not like them, the awful.

  • @TEAM HEIDI: Seriously, start channeling Chainsaw again. Your current persona sucks.

  • @TEAM HEIDI: You can hit me harder than "Bald-headed Korean." I had more respect for you then that.

Are you saying that Peggy Noonan is a bald-headed Korean?

  • You know what would be funny/sad? If she did start floating names for VP picks. That would be awkward.

  • @TEAM HEIDI: That might be a new record. You managed to act normal for what - a good week?

  • @TEAM HEIDI: Yes, when my elementary school class performed Brer Rabbit skits, the fact that I memorized (the fairly astonishingly racist) dialogue as an 8 year old means I am now a Klansman (if they let women play in their white-robed games). And all the gay men and women who go to Catholic church want to prevent themselves from having sex. And, for that matter, all the Catholics who go to church want to stop all sex outside of marriage, masturbation, and even sexual thoughts.

  • @dearest: Or that most people are awful, but once in a whle, are not.

  • @tunamelt: what do I have against Koreans?!?!

well let me share a little of my personal story with you: i met the love of my life, a strapping young norweigian man named ARVID NOE way back when...we had a whirlwind romance and a honeymoon in Guam and we were on our return flight home on KOREAN AIR 801 when I got ejected from the flight...after a verbal tussle with a attendant got physical...and poor ARVID was still on the flight when it crashed! Yes!! My hubby died on our honeymoon on the korean air flight that crashed in guam. it was just horrible. i saw my own husband crash and burn. and it was because that damn korean pilot was drunk off his ass on cheap sake

  • Is Team Heidi for real or just doing a very bad and unfunny job trying to be sarcastic? Is Team Heidi Tony the Tiger? I am so confused.

  • @TEAM HEIDI:
Steny Hoyer is as boring a politician as you are a commenter.

  • @SayItWithWookies: I'll somewhat agree with you with these points:

    * As much as I don't want to admit this, HRC was right. This nom race was GOOD for BO. He was vetted hard by a serious fighter and came out on top. Showed himself as even keeled and presidential with a top-notch and wise support structure that organized well and kept everything moving. He is stronger and JM is cosiderably weak. That and he's also disliked within his own party. (A plus for the Dem system over the Rep "winner take all" system which didn't make McCain "work for it").

    * While the race built one up, it allowed another to break herself down. In fact, all of HRC's machinations actually proved BO's whole premise of a different kind of fight. If he had to fight this way against a Repub, itwould have been branded as a soft Dem vs. a tough Repub. Unfortunately in this case, this means the "tougher" of the two Dems destroyed her own career while doing so.

    Which leads to:

    * A possibly stronger Dem party. A stronger party in which now there are 1) new Dems who are now in the game 1a) the young generation who needed inspiration and 1b) Ind/Reps who needed some sort of Regan-ish voice to help them make sense of the mess the Repubs have left. 2) The Return of the Eggheads: Brutalized after 200 and 2004 and the last 8 years of this administration where surrealism has replaced reality. 3) Minority vote: not just the blacks, but the people married to them, who are half related to them... don't count out that the last 4 years of integration and openminded values haven't changed the face of the electorate and that blacks now aren't begrudgingly voting with the party but actually feel a personal stake and a possible voice. Especially since they were totally behind Clinton who then betrayed them. The betrayal was a big deal and those who usually don't pay attention totally did now.

I was about to say more but I then got too hungry to concentrate. I'll probably be back.

  • Whaaa? Peggy Noonan is a bald headed Korean, and we agree with her? End of Days indeed...

  • @dearest: that is a great lesson to learn, too. All is not black and white, life is nuanced, and if you try to make it black and white, you end up as George Bush. Sadly, most people want it to be black and white, the way they want to be able to take a pill to be thin and pretty. Nuance is hard, like losing weight through diet and exercise.

You sad, sad, spindly, balding, elderly korean man (if you can even call yourself a man). I wouldn't let you hold open a door for me much less date you so stop sending all those sexual innuendos my way and save it for your mail order bride.

TEAM HEIDI on May 8, 2008

It also took me less than five minutes to dig your REAL personal email address through wonkette and then i broke into the server for your email provider to get your home address. I am sending one of my minions there right now.

TEAM HEIDI on May 8, 2008

    Your depilation is my constipation.

TEAM HEIDI on May 7, 2008

I wish you would show your face you balding korean devil. Your frightening visage would be enough to cause the entire internet to crash and burn forever. Then we would be freed from our shackles for at least a day.

TEAM HEIDI on May 7, 2008

I read that Tunamelt. And I know where you live. I broke through wonkette security to get your real email address and then went on your email provider's server to get your home address. I am on my way there right now.

TEAM HEIDI on May 7, 2008

If they want to finally get some real advertisers on this site they are going to have to ban your soggy ass. I really wish you would leave me alone. I can't stand you.

TEAM HEIDI on May 7, 2008

I didn't realize that your type were allowed here.

--- All these insults, what did Peggy do to you?

  • I'm just hoping Peggy's magical dolphins show up and off Hillary.

  • HA HA, Hils.

Feel the cold icy vines of disdain close around your throat!

Its an M. Night Shamaylan Moment.

Hils realizes suddenly that the house is coming to drop on her, right in front of Glenda the Ice Witch of the North.

'But I thought I was the GOOD witch!' she screams as a house half from Kansas and half from Kenya descends.

  • @shortsshortsshorts:
    Definitely Tony the Tiger.

    Luckily tigers are going extinct.

  • @shortsshortsshorts: Ah. Classic Trolling behavior.

    What is this? LiveJournal?

  • @shortsshortsshorts: holy crap. This is stalker level oddness.

  • ...at this point she(Hillary) cant even campaign on Obama's behalf when he is FINALLY nominated. I never thought that I would see the day that Democrat is intentionally attempting to sabotage another Democrats ability to win the General election out of personal ambition. At every one of her rallies she continues to spout some fairytale about how she can still "win" and people actually believe it. Hillary has insulted her own base in so many ways, yet they don't realize she is doing it.

-She insults women by insinuating that she is the first and last woman to ever have a chance at the nomination. There are PLENTY of female politicians (Barbara Boxer, Nancy Pelosi etc.) that in the right climate would have an equal opportunity to win the nomination.

-She insults white people by lumping them all into one racist stereotype.

-She insults black people by insinuating that black people all share ONE brain and no have ability to choose a candidate on any other criteria than race.

-She insults anyone with a college education by portraying them as "Elitist.

At this point I honestly do not see a place for Hillary Clinton in the Democratic part after the dust has settles(the jury is still out on Bill)

  • @shortsshortsshorts: Hey, I got mentioned by name! Cool.

  • @SayItWithWookies: The Democratic party has spent the last 50 years or so trying to convince the Negroes that they really care (an about-face from the previous 50 years), a strategy that has netted them votes from just about every urban center in the Union. But now an entrenched higher-up in the Beloved Party, who has been entrenched in a position of great power in the Beloved Party for almost two decades, has publicly said "I got the white vote and that's all that really matters," and you think this is going to help the Democrats? After all, this only goes to confirm one of the great criticisms the Other Beloved Party has had about the Democrats.

I'm sure the Whigs thought the party would rally 'round their eventual nominee as well.

  • @tunamelt: My priorities are all crooked up.

  • @shortsshortsshorts:
I got one this morn, too.

Who cares. This short balding Korean is ready for Tony.

  • @AngryBlakGuy: I am in NYC and I can almost assure you that she will not see another term in the Senate on our backs.

  • @The Real JR: ...maybe she will move to West Virgina or Pennsylvania and run there?

  • @Botswana Meat Commission FC: OOOOOOOOOOOOH burn! Isn't labelling my posts boring kind of like the pot calling the kettle black? or is that too politically incorrect for you. Anyway now that Hillary is gone until she runs against McCain in 2012 I am exiting this site for good. Back to Jezebel for me! Have a nice life.

  • @AngryBlakGuy: That is where here "base" is.

Well, her base and the Crown Royal.

  • @ManchuCandidate: oh PLEASE! I wouldn't touch your cauliflower ass with a 12 foot pole. And I noticed you have started posting on Jezebel....is that the only opportunity a freaky geek like you gets to communicate with a statuesque beauty like myself?

Save it for your korean mail order bride buddy!

  • Someone check Nooner's basement for pods.

  • @TEAM HEIDI: lol Jezebel. Well played. Wait-

  • dear team heidi,
when you begin to mask your other phobias under the umbrella of feminism, you really make all of us real feminists look bad. please DO go away.
    -PutinMuscles

  • @The Real JR: The question is whether or not she gained enough (uneducated, white) upstate votes to make up for it.

  • If this column and most of the above posts are any indication of how quick we can be to let down our guard, we might as well all send a letter to Wajiristan and invite Osama to knock over a couple more buildings. Look, kids, some days the Wonkette guard--the thin blue line of electrons--is all that stands between America and total insanity. Now (*bitchslap*) snark the fuck up, or start patting Mexican total strangers on the head.

  • @Guppy06: Sigh. You ain't lying. Friggin upstaters.

  • @PutinMuscles: what you said.

  • @WadISay: Mea culpa. From now on it's all habemus snarkus.

  • @Dave J.: Oh, i thiught he was joking.

  • Really good article.

  • @Doglessliberal: "I am so confused." THANK YOU.

  • @tunamelt: yeah, you might want to move...

  • Why is everyone talking about bald Koreans in this thread?

  • Damn, Nooners nailed it. What did they put in her pills this week?

  • Is it rude to point out her Latin has grammatical errors? It should of course be "Vivat Obamus! Vivat nominatus!" Or is this some subtle dig at the Latin skills of Obama supporters?

  • You know what's scary?

This Team Heidi person is batshit insane...they are stalking an entire fucking blog...

  • You're right, it's a great article. It's just a shame that no conservatives had seen it because Peggy Noonan said that she doesn't mind Reverend Wright's words. (Oh, and can you imagine how sad the Republicans will look after election day if they try a strategy of Rev. Wright voyeurism? I'm thinking [bp1.blogger.com]")

  • Why does Wonkette seem to attract bipolar types?

  • After reading this article my suggestion is that Hillary must be told to quit by the dream team of Ru-Paul, John Waters and Adam West.

  • @Harvey Birdman:

It isn't just Wonkette, it's the whole damn Internet...

  • Wow, look at all pretty colors!

Peggy made sense, Bill Bennett likes Obama and Mort Sahl finally said something funny. The magnetic poles may be reversing this very year!
    Mort on Olbermann:

"..Hillary's the Mother who wants the kids to stay home."

And America is the daughter that says "But Mother, I love him!"
