Investigating the Investigator

Who downloads porn at the office? This guy downloads porn at the officeScott “Pornmaster General” Bloch was appointed by the Bush Administration to run the Office of Special Counsel and his tenure has been marked by some controversy over his opinion that his office doesn’t need to do anything about discrimination against homosexuals. More recently, he’s been heading up the investigation about Karl Rove using government resources to engage in political conduct (a no-no) and maybe deleting the emails that proved it. Well, Scott himself apparently knows a thing or two about deleting files.

The Pornmaster General decided just before Christmas last year that he had to wipe his hard drive and 2 others used by departed aides. Why? He says he had a virus (which, as everyone knows, you only get from downloading the really nasty porn and pictures of Britney Spears’ catbag). But did he call any of the various tech people that work for the federal government? Well, no, not exactly.

Bloch, a true advocate of free-market solutions (and free internet porn!) called Geeks on Call and had them perform a seven-level wipe on his, uh, computer in conformity with Pentagon security standards, even though the Geeks say that isn’t necessary to eradicate a virus. It is, however, necessary if you want to eliminate the possibility of your hard drive being forensically reconstructed for some reason. Oh, and, um, he did all this less than a month after his office was forced to start investigating Rove’s adventures with the delete button, but I’m sure that’s just a coincidence.

Bloch also coincidentally bought an encrypted flash drive from the Geeks the same day that they eliminated all the possibility of anyone reconstructing his hard drive, but he says that’s totally irrelevant to the irrelevant investigation. The Pornmaster has secrets that need keeping.
