Nibbling at the Edges of the Problem

Dynasties aren't just for TexasEvery time you think you know just how damn bad the health care system in this country sucks, you come across a new piece of information and you have to shake your head. Today’s piece of information? The Attorney General of New York has six full time staffers who do nothing but call and yell at your shitty insurance company for you.

begin rant/

The State of New York PAYS six people actual salaries to spend their time calling up the insurance companies that people PAY to insure them to get said insurance companies to PAY for the health care they contractually obligated themselves to cover because the state knows that the companies are going to screw so many damn people over! Like, rather than, I dunno, fixing the system or changing the laws or just punishing the companies for having policies designed to try to weasel out of paying for people’s health care costs (which is the PURPOSE of their entire existence), the state of New York has just thrown up its collective hands in defeat and hired people to negotiate with insurance companies on its citizens’ behalf over the health care coverage that they already paid for and are entitled to receive. Right, good plan, people. It’s not like you’re the fucking government and could thus do something about fixing the problem rather than mitigating the worst of its consequences or anything.

/end rant

And then Republicans scratch their heads and wonder why even their own damn voters think that the government should just take over the health care system in some way, even though no one trusts the damn government most of the time. The system is fucked and the insurance companies are screwing with everyone and the big plan is to give us tax breaks to encourage us to patronize them even more? If you’re going to do that, just start a federal version of this program because we’re all going to need it, kthnxbi.
