Cocaine Just Gets Cheaper

My nose itchesWonkette is dedicated to bringing its readers the most up-to-date news in the War on Drugs available, from marijuana to cocaine and anything else we can find to “write about.” Today, we bring you news from the cocaine front of the WoD: prices are up! No, down! Well, both. We get some help focusing, after the jump.

A couple weeks ago, the White House and the DEA came together to announce that because of disruptions to the supply chain, coke prices were at an “unprecedented” high. But, it turns out that they might sort of already know that their math is a little fuzzy.

Their numbers, according to the Washington Post, are based on a comparison with 2005, which is the last time this crew came together to announce that supply was down and coke prices were up. But, a study done by the RAND Corporation for the federal government on coke prices since 1981 (that takes into account things like inflation and the size of a typical “consumer” purchase) shows that despite the WoD, coke prices have been coming down for years, with some spikes that might correlate with enforcement efforts.

So, coke prices are trending downwards overall, with slight spikes due to enforcement efforts, while gas prices continue to trend higher with peaks and valleys along the way. Hey, do you think we can get the government to start a War on Gas?
