Delay Judge's Goose Is Cooked
We understand that the judge in Republican congressman Tom Delay's criminal trial has been removed due to the "appearance of impropriety," since the judge has made donations to Democratic campaigns in the past. Delay's supporters asked that the judge step aside "to protect the integrity" of the judicial system. We see a slippery slope here: What if, say, a Supreme Court judicial nominee had been the personal lawyer of someone who has business before the Court? She might have to withdraw her nomination or something. Should there not be any other reasons to withdraw it. Geez, next thing you know, judges and litigants won't even be able to go duck hunting together anymore.
